INDIANAPOLIS – Mac McClung is now a member of the Indiana Pacers, signing a two-year, $4.9 million contract as the team navigates a wave of injuries. The 24-year-old guard expressed his excitement upon receiving the news while in Chicago. “I was just like, man, it’s been five years trying to chase a contract,” McClung told The Athletic.

The Pacers have been hit hard this season, particularly after star Tyrese Haliburton suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during the NBA Finals. Along with Haliburton, other key players like T.J. McConnell, Andrew Nembhard, and Bennedict Mathurin are currently sidelined.

McClung, who has played for multiple teams including the Bulls and Lakers, brings valuable experience despite being a young player. Known for his explosive dunking ability, he previously won the G League Rookie of the Year and MVP titles.

“It’s been quite a roller coaster,” McClung said of his journey to this moment. He averages 6.3 points, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 rebounds in the three games he has played this season. Pacers coach Rick Carlisle noted McClung’s aggressive playing style could strengthen the team’s backcourt.

Following his recent signing, McClung is expected to help fill the gaps left by injured players. His energy and competitive spirit are seen as vital for the team as it struggles with a 1-6 record.

In their last game, the Pacers faced the Brooklyn Nets in a closely contested match, ultimately losing 112-103. Pascal Siakam led the Pacers with 23 points. As they head into their next series of away games, the team remains hopeful that McClung’s addition will offer a much-needed boost.
