INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — As college basketball approaches the climax of its regular season, attention is shifting to the 2025 NBA Draft. Analysts are already speculating about potential top picks, particularly after the recent NBA trade deadline and with All-Star Weekend on the horizon.

Recently, Michael Saenz released an updated mock draft projecting Mackenzie Mgbako, a sophomore forward for the Indiana Hoosiers, as a first-round selection. The Orlando Magic, who own a second lottery pick, are considered a strong candidate to select Mgbako.

“After taking a guard with their earlier pick, adding depth at the wing position would be prudent for the Magic,” Saenz stated. “With injuries to Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero, securing a player like Mgbako could be beneficial. Although he hasn’t garnered immense attention yet, I expect him to climb draft boards over the coming month.”

Mgbako has demonstrated exceptional performance in recent games, averaging 18.2 points and six rebounds, while shooting 52.2% from the field over his last five outings. His free-throw shooting is particularly noteworthy, standing at 91.7%, making him one of the best in the nation. For the season, Mgbako’s averages are 13.3 points and five rebounds with a shooting accuracy of 47% from the floor and 36% from beyond the arc.

The Hoosiers, currently sitting at 14-10, have seven games left in the regular season, before participating in the Big Ten Conference tournament. Their postseason potential remains uncertain, which may affect Mgbako’s visibility ahead of the draft.

Additionally, teams are ramping up their scouting efforts as the NBA Draft Combine approaches, scheduled for June 14-21, followed by the NBA Draft Lottery on June 22. The NBA Draft will take place starting July 25, with the second round commencing on July 26.

As the league’s decision-makers intensify their evaluations, Mgbako stands out as a growing prospect. The NBA Draft is fast approaching, and teams like the Magic are expected to evaluate every candidate closely as they prepare for their selections this summer.
