Madison Keys Advances in Roland-Garros with Convincing Win

PARIS, France — Madison Keys defeated Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-3 on Wednesday to advance to the third round of Roland-Garros. The No. 7 seed showcased her skill and determination at Court Philippe-Chatrier, remaining one of the most consistent players on tour.
Since her early exit at Roland-Garros 2023, the world No. 8 has reached at least the third round in every Grand Slam she has entered. Against Boulter, ranked No. 38, Keys dominated with an impressive performance that took just 79 minutes.
Boulter, who recently won her first clay title at the WTA 125 event, started strong, briefly troubling Keys with her play. However, after an intense 24-minute opening, Keys swiftly took control with a 3-1 lead.
Keys’ powerful inside-out forehand was key to her victory, allowing her to keep Boulter at a distance. After breaking at the beginning of the second set, Keys consolidated her lead despite Boulter putting up a fight to fend off match point. Boulter managed to score points, including a well-executed backhand drop shot, but it wasn’t enough.
Following the match, Keys reflected on her performance, stating, “I usually just try to focus on myself and my side of the court.” She noted the importance of patience on clay, saying, “You definitely have to be more patient to set up the point.”
Keys added that she enjoys playing at Roland-Garros, calling it “an honor” to compete on such prestigious courts. As she prepares for her next match, Keys aims to improve her break point conversion, highlighting a five from seventeen success rate in this match.
With her solid start in the tournament, Keys will aim to continue her winning ways in the upcoming rounds, focusing on her tactics and enjoying the Parisian experience.
