DETROIT, Mich. — Malik Beasley has embraced his role with the Detroit Pistons and expressed his affection for the team ahead of their playoff push. Following a victory against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, Beasley shared a heartfelt message on social media, declaring, “Yo .. I love this team.. they give me life everyday 🖤.”

The 28-year-old joined the Pistons on a one-year contract after spending the previous season with the Milwaukee Bucks. Transitioning from a team that was a contender in the Eastern Conference to one that posted a dismal 14-68 record last year raised questions about his future in Detroit. However, with the Pistons now in contention for the 2025 NBA Playoffs, Beasley has communicated to the front office his desire to remain with the team.

In his bench role, Beasley has thrived, averaging 16 points while shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc in 73 games this season. His contributions have been vital for the Pistons as they seek playoff success. “He’s been exactly what we needed this year,” said Cade Cunningham, Detroit’s star guard.

As the Pistons gear up for postseason play, Beasley’s veteran experience will be crucial; he has played in 37 playoff games over four seasons. Last year, he averaged nine points while shooting 44 percent from three in the postseason.

In other news, fellow guard Marcus Sasser has recently enjoyed increased playing time in Cunningham’s absence due to a calf contusion. Sasser recorded a career-high 27 points against the Spurs, shooting 75 percent from the field. Following the game, Cunningham celebrated Sasser’s achievement on social media, showcasing the team’s camaraderie.

Throughout March, Sasser has played just six games, accumulating seven DNPs. However, his recent performances, including averaging 24 points and hitting eight of 11 shots from three, have earned him a spot in the rotation. With Cunningham out again for a game against the Cavaliers on Friday, Sasser could see nearly 20 minutes on the court.

Sasser’s journey this season has been challenging; he has played in 51 games but has averaged under seven points. Despite limited opportunities, he has maintained strong shooting performance, with 40 percent accuracy from three-point range.

The Pistons’ upcoming matchup against the Cavaliers will start at 7 PM ET on Friday night as Detroit aims to continue their winning streak and solidify their playoff position.

Meanwhile, Jaden Ivey is on the mend from an injury sustained earlier this year. Ivey, who was carried off the court in January following a leg injury, has recently been seen doing light jogging after practice. Prior to his injury, he averaged 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists per game, shooting 46 percent from the field.

The Pistons have kept fans updated regarding Ivey’s recovery, noting that while he has made progress, it remains uncertain if he will return this season due to the limited time left to regain game readiness ahead of a playoff run.

As the NBA playoffs approach, every game counts for the Pistons, who are eyeing a fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. Their recent victory against the Spurs marked their highest win total since the previous season, setting the stage for a key matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets. With both teams facing injury challenges, the outcome could significantly impact Detroit’s playoff aspirations.
