Malik Monk Sacramento Kings Calf Injury

DETROIT, Michigan — Sacramento Kings guard Malik Monk will not return to Monday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons due to a left calf injury, reported Brenden Nunes of KHTK Sactown Sports 1140. Monk suffered the injury in the first quarter and was quickly ruled out by the medical staff after playing just six minutes, during which he scored two points and recorded one assist.

Monk, who has been a vital contributor to the Kings’ offense, is averaging 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game this season. His unexpected exit comes at a crucial time as Sacramento competes for a playoff spot, currently battling for the 9th seed in the Western Conference with only four games left in the regular season.

With Monk sidelined, the Kings will rely on guard Markelle Fultz and rookie Devin Carter to handle more of the backcourt duties for the remainder of the game. Fultz commented on the situation, saying, “We need to step up. Malik’s a big part of our team, and it’s tough to see him go down. We just have to find a way to keep pushing.”

Before the injury, Monk had also demonstrated a productive offensive synergy with star forward DeMar DeRozan, who scored 22 points in the first half and was pivotal in maintaining competitiveness against the Pistons, even as the team faced a substantial 72-62 deficit at halftime.

Despite Monk’s injury, the Kings are looking to secure their third consecutive victory as they approach the 2025 play-in tournament. Head coach Mike Brown addressed the team’s plight, stating, “Injuries are part of the game, but we have to adapt. We have great depth, and it’s time for others to rise up.”

The extent of Monk’s injury remains unclear at this stage. Fans and team members alike are hoping for a swift recovery as the Kings inch closer to postseason play.
