Mamelodi Sundowns Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams Reigns Supreme at PSL Awards Ceremony
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made history at the recently held PSL Awards ceremony, clinching the prestigious PSL Footballer of the Season award and the DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season title.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper’s double triumph marked a significant milestone, being the first goalkeeper since Itumeleng Khune in 2013 to secure the coveted PSL Footballer of the Season accolade.
Williams outshone his contenders, including his teammate Teboho Mokoena and Stellenbosch FC‘s Iqraam Rayners, to claim the top honour.
Furthermore, the Brazilians’ mentor, Rulani Mokwena, emerged as the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season, prevailing over Orlando Pirates‘ Jose Riveiro and Stellenbosch FC’s Steve Barker in the category.
Defender Grant Kekana bagged the DStv Premiership Defender of the Season award, while Patrick Maswanganyi‘s stellar midfield performances earned him the Player of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, and Player's Player of the Season titles.
Orlando Pirates’ young talent Relebohile Mofokeng clinched the Young Player of the Season and the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player of the Tournament awards.
Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates secured the Last Man Standing title, notably for his standout performance in the penalty shootout during the final that led to their victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup.
Stellenbosch FC’s Devin Titus was named the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament for his crucial role in helping his team secure the trophy.
As a fitting conclusion to the night, Mamelodi Sundowns received the Chairman’s Award in recognition of their remarkable ten-year achievements in South African football.
