Man Dies in Drake Neighborhood Hit-and-Run Incident
DES MOINES, Iowa — A 40-year-old man died Tuesday evening after being hit by a vehicle in Des Moines’ Drake neighborhood. The incident occurred near the intersection of 31st Street and University Avenue around 6 p.m.
Des Moines police and fire crews responded to the scene after reports of a pedestrian being struck. First responders found the victim with critical injuries and began lifesaving efforts, including CPR. Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.
Authorities reported that the vehicle involved in the incident fled the scene before emergency crews arrived. On Wednesday, police identified the vehicle as a Ford F-150. The truck was later located in the vicinity of Beaver Avenue and Witmer Parkway and has since been impounded for further investigation.
Police are urging anyone who may have information about the hit-and-run to contact them by calling 911. This tragic incident marks the 13th traffic-related death in Des Moines this year and the fifth involving a pedestrian.
