Manchester City Considers Move for Celtic Forward Kyogo Furuhashi
Manchester City is reportedly considering a potential transfer for Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi. The Premier League champions are currently evaluating their options following Julian Alvarez’s recent transfer to Atletico Madrid for £82 million.
It is understood that City will only pursue a new signing if a suitable candidate emerges in the market. As of now, no concrete decision has been made regarding any particular player.
Sky Sports News has previously indicated that another player of interest to City is Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace. Additionally, Pep Guardiola has received an opportunity to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona, who has been informed that he can leave the LaLiga club.
Kyogo Furuhashi transferred to Celtic in 2021, reuniting with former manager Ange Postecoglou, with whom he had previously worked at Yokohama F Marinos, a member of the City Football Group. Since joining Celtic, the Japan international has made a remarkable impact, netting 73 goals in 135 appearances and contributing 16 assists.
The 29-year-old forward recently renewed his contract with Celtic, indicating his commitment to the club until 2027. This puts Celtic in a strong position, as they have no immediate pressure to sell their star player.
Juanma Lillo, assistant manager at Manchester City, is familiar with Kyogo from his previous tenure with Vissel Kobe, adding an extra layer of interest in the player.
Meanwhile, the transfer window is closing soon, and City aims to finalize their transfer plans, including the Gundogan deal. Should they decide to acquire a new forward, Kyogo could be a viable option.
In other developments, Douglas Ross, the outgoing leader of the Scottish Conservatives, has been in the media spotlight after an incident involving a banner displayed by fans during a match at Celtic Park, which directed criticism towards him.
