Uefa Champions League Draw 2025 Manchester City Real Madrid

NYON, Switzerland — Manchester City will face Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League playoff round, marking the fourth consecutive season the two football giants have clashed in the knockout stages. The draw, held Friday, sets up a highly anticipated rematch between the clubs, with the first legs scheduled for Feb. 11-12 and the return legs on Feb. 18-19.

The rivalry between City and Madrid has intensified in recent years. Last season, the teams drew both legs of their quarterfinal tie before Madrid triumphed on penalties and went on to win the title. In the 2022-23 season, City dominated with a 5-1 aggregate victory in the semifinals, eventually securing a historic treble by defeating Inter Milan in the final.

This season, however, both teams have faced challenges. Manchester City, typically dominant in the Premier League, has struggled to maintain its usual form, falling behind in the domestic title race. Real Madrid, under manager Carlo Ancelotti, also experienced a shaky start but has regained momentum in recent weeks, thanks in part to standout performances from key players.

The playoff round does not include the top eight finishers from the league phase, such as Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Barcelona, who have already advanced to the round of 16. The draw for that stage will take place on Feb. 21.

Other notable matchups in the playoff round include Atalanta vs. Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan vs. PSV. The Europa League draw, which followed the Champions League event, revealed opponents for Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating the clash between Manchester City and Real Madrid, as both teams aim to reclaim their dominance in European football. The outcome of this tie could significantly impact the trajectory of their respective seasons.
