Manchester City Faces Criticism Ahead of FA Cup Clash with Bournemouth

Manchester, England – Manchester City is under fire from fans after announcing a partnership with ticket resale platform Viagogo, raising concerns over ticket pricing and distribution ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final against Bournemouth on Sunday.
This week, Manchester City revealed that select hospitality tickets for their upcoming men’s and women’s matches would be available through Viagogo. However, many fans expressed dissatisfaction, accusing the club of being “tone deaf” to the struggles of its supporters.
City’s hospitality tickets, which are typically more expensive, may also end up in the hands of away fans, exacerbating worries about inflated prices for regular tickets. This sentiment was echoed by vocal supporters on social media, who criticized the decision as considering profit over loyalty.
In the wake of this controversy, City manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged the team’s struggles this season, stating, “This season? Really poor.” The team currently sits fifth in the Premier League, a staggering 22 points behind leaders Liverpool.
“The opponents never gave us a red carpet to win the titles that we won in the past,” Guardiola continued. “My duty was to overcome the situation much better than I have done. Hopefully, this will not happen next season. This is important,” he said.
As City prepares for the crucial match at Bournemouth, discussions among pundits have highlighted the unpredictable nature of cup competitions. Former defender Joe Partington stated on a podcast, “Anyone at home suits Bournemouth this season as they have shown enough class at the Vitality to get the better of almost anyone.” He added that Bournemouth’s self-belief could pose a challenge to City if they do not perform at their best.
Equipped with a chance at silverware, Bournemouth will look to capitalize on a struggling City side. Cherries manager Andoni Iraola praised the importance of the FA Cup, stating that it holds more value to him than European qualification. “We are playing in a final; we are fighting for a title. For me, it’s much more important,” Iraola said.
City’s strong historical performance in the FA Cup is noteworthy, as they have won their last seven quarter-final ties and reached the semi-finals in six consecutive seasons — a competition record. However, players returning from international duty may complicate Guardiola’s team selection for the match.
Ultimately, this weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final not only poses a pivotal moment for Manchester City to salvage their season but also serves as a critical opportunity for Bournemouth to achieve their first-ever major trophy.
