Manchester City Vs Crystal Palace Lineup April 2025

Manchester, England – Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is forced to shuffle his lineup ahead of today’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace, as the team grapples with multiple injuries. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. BST at the Etihad Stadium.

The reigning champions are missing key defenders John Stones, Nathan Ake, and Manuel Akanji, who are sidelined with long-term injuries. Stones has been out since February with a thigh injury, while Ake recently underwent surgery for a fractured foot. Akanji also required surgery on an abductor injury and is not expected to return until late April. Guardiola commented on the situation in a pre-match press conference, saying, “Still injured, we’ll see. Injuries happened all season; we adapt. You can see it as a problem or a challenge.”

To compensate for the injuries, Guardiola has included Rico Lewis in the starting XI. The 18-year-old is considered a promising talent and takes the place of Matheus Nunes at right-back. Meanwhile, Nico O'Reilly has earned his position on the left following impressive performances in recent matches.

Despite the injury setbacks, City had a full week to prepare after a goalless draw against Manchester United last Sunday. This allowed star player Kevin De Bruyne to resume his place in the midfield, alongside new starter Omar Marmoush and James McAtee, who is making his first Premier League start.

During the pre-match setup, Guardiola acknowledged the unpredictability of his squad’s form, stating, “I’m happy with the way we handled the situation and where we are.” However, the absence of Phil Foden, who is missing from the squad due to a knock sustained during the last match, raises concerns for City’s offensive power.

City’s starting lineup for the match includes: Ederson, Lewis, Rúben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, O’Reilly, Kovacic, Ilkay Gundogan, De Bruyne, McAtee, and Marmoush. Substitutes include Ortega, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Reis, Savinho, Nunes, Khusanov, and Bobb.

On the opposing side, Crystal Palace’s manager Oliver Glasner made only one change to his starting team due to Marc Guehi’s suspension. Chris Richards steps in, providing reinforcements to the defense. Maxence Lacroix remains fit to continue, supported by key players Jean-Philippe Mateta, Ismaila Sarr, Eberechi Eze, and Daniel Muñoz.

The matchup promises intense competition, with both teams aiming for crucial points in this late-season fixture. This marks the second encounter of the season, as the teams drew 2-2 in their previous meeting at Selhurst Park in December. With both clubs in pursuit of European qualification, today’s match is considered a pivotal moment for their respective campaigns.
