Manchester City Set to Sign Brazilian Wonderkid Savio
Manchester City has secured a deal to sign Brazilian wonderkid Savio, who had been a target for FC Barcelona. The 19-year-old, currently on loan at Girona from Troyes, will join the Citizens in July, further reinforcing the dominance of the City Football Group.
Despite reported interest from German and English clubs, Savio’s focus remains on Girona, where he has been instrumental in their title challenge. Alongside Real Madrid‘s Toni Kroos, Savio leads La Liga in assists, propelling his team to a surprising position in the championship race.
Girona’s clash against Real Madrid next weekend is set to be a decisive fixture in the title race, with the outcome potentially determining the successor to FC Barcelona as the kings of Spain.
Savio’s impressive performances have caught the attention of FC Barcelona, who had previously identified him as their top target for 2024. However, the Catalan giants have once again been outbid by Manchester City, highlighting their financial limitations compared to Premier League clubs and Paris Saint-Germain.
The young winger, who has never played for Troyes since his record signing in 2022, has also attracted interest from other clubs under the City Football Group umbrella, including PSV Eindhoven. Savio’s versatility and contribution of goals and assists from the left flank have been vital in Girona’s rise to second place in La Liga.
Manchester City recently added another young talent, Argentinian attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri, to their ranks during the January transfer window, sending him back on loan to River Plate for the remainder of 2024.
