Manchester United Women’s pre-season friendly match against Liverpool has been officially cancelled. The encounter was scheduled to take place on Sunday, 25 August, at Carrington.

The cancellation resulted from limited availability within the Liverpool squad, as several players have sustained injuries during recent international matches.

Liverpool manager Matt Beard expressed gratitude towards Manchester United for their understanding regarding this situation. He stated, “Unfortunately, over the last few weeks, we’ve picked up a number of injuries to players who were involved in the international window during the close season. This has limited the availability of the squad, so it’s best that we take this opportunity to have a bit of a reset.”

The match was set to be held behind closed doors, consistent with United Women’s remaining three pre-season fixtures.

Marc Skinner’s team commenced their pre-season campaign ten days ago with a match against FA Women’s Championship side Durham. They will return to action next weekend, when they host fellow second-tier team Newcastle United.

In addition, later in September, Manchester United Women will also welcome WSL side Leicester City to Carrington and face Tottenham Hotspur at a neutral venue, concluding their preparations with a training camp in Spain.

Manchester United Women are set to start their season at Old Trafford on Saturday, 21 September, with a kick-off time of 12:00 BST. They will be hosting West Ham United in their first match of the new WSL campaign.

Tickets are currently on sale for supporters wishing to attend the women’s team opening match at Old Trafford.
