Toronto, ON — The Toronto Maple Leafs secured a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory against the Ottawa Senators on April 22, 2025, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.

In front of a packed crowd of 19,333 at Scotiabank Arena, the Maple Leafs struck first with defenseman Morgan Rielly scoring at 3:43 in the first period. Rielly was assisted by William Nylander and John Tavares.

The Maple Leafs doubled their lead when John Tavares scored on a power play at 18:20 of the first period, assisted by Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews.

The Senators responded in the second period with Brady Tkachuk finding the net, also on a power play, making it 2-1. Tkachuk was assisted by Claude Giroux and Thomas Chabot.

With time running out in the third period, Adam Gaudette tied the game 2-2 for Ottawa at 14:47, with help from Tyler Kleven and Tim Stutzle, forcing the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Max Domi scored the decisive goal at 3:09, giving the Maple Leafs the victory. Simon Benoit assisted Domi on the play.

Toronto’s goaltender faced 21 shots throughout the game, while the Maple Leafs registered 28 shots. The Senators struggled on faceoffs, winning just 46.6% compared to Toronto’s 53.4%.

This outcome puts the Maple Leafs one win away from advancing to the next round of the playoffs.
