Marat Khusnutdinov Boston Bruins Trade

BOSTON, Mass. — The Minnesota Wild traded forward Marat Khusnutdinov to the Boston Bruins on March 6, 2025, ahead of the NHL trade deadline. Khusnutdinov’s move comes after a brief stint in the AHL, where the Wild sent him for salary cap reasons following their acquisition of Gustav Nyquist.

The 22-year-old Russian forward has shown promise since being selected in the second round of the 2020 draft but struggled to find his offensive rhythm in the NHL. In 73 career games with the Wild, he recorded three goals and eight assists.

“Khusnutdinov was a highly touted prospect from the KHL,” said NHL analyst Harman Dayal. “While he’s struggled to make an offensive impact in his first full NHL season, he’s still only 22, has impressive speed, and is a solid defensive player.”

Originally drafted as a skilled two-way center, Khusnutdinov showcased his abilities in international play, captaining the Russian U16 team and contributing to Russia’s silver medal at the U18 World Junior Championship.

During his time in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), he recorded 22 goals and 51 assists over multiple seasons, demonstrating his potential before transitioning to the NHL.

After being sent to the AHL Iowa, there was uncertainty over whether Khusnutdinov would join the Bruins directly or continue developing in Providence. He had hoped to reignite his production after struggling with the Wild in recent months.

In exchange for Khusnutdinov, the Wild received forward Justin Brazeau and a sixth-round draft pick in 2026. Brazeau, a 27-year-old known for his size and net-front presence, had 10 goals in 57 games with the Bruins this season.

“This trade adds depth to our forward group,” said Wild general manager Bill Guerin. “We believe Brazeau’s style of play will help us increase our scoring options as we push toward the postseason.”

Khusnutdinov remains a restricted free agent at the end of the 2024-25 season, adding uncertainty to his future with the Bruins. If he can rekindle the form that made him a promising prospect, he could become a valuable asset in Boston.

“We see potential in Marat,” said Bruins coach Jim Montgomery. “He has the skill set and competition spirit we value. It’s up to him to showcase his abilities with us.”
