Marcus Epps Nfl Safety Signing Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots have signed former Raiders safety Marcus Epps to a one-year contract worth up to $4.4 million, as reported by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero on March 14, 2025.

Epps, 29, formerly with the Las Vegas Raiders, missed most of the 2024 season after suffering a torn ACL in Week 3. Despite his injury, he is expected to be cleared for training camp.

Initially drafted in the sixth round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2019, Epps made a significant impact during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles. He earned a starting position during the 2022 season, where he recorded 94 tackles and six passes defensed. His performance led to a two-year, $12 million contract with the Raiders the following year.

During his tenure with the Raiders in 2023, Epps registered 66 tackles and was a crucial part of the team’s defense, helping them snap a 19-year streak of finishing in the bottom half of the league in scoring defense. However, his injury hampered his ability to replicate that level of performance in 2024, limiting him to just three games where he tallied 19 total tackles.

As a player with 45 career starts and 82 games played, Epps has accumulated three interceptions and 18 passes defensed. His prior experience and contributions to both the Eagles and Raiders made him a valuable addition to the Patriots’ defense, which has undergone several changes this offseason.

“Marcus is a tough player with a proven track record who can help us solidify our secondary,” said a team source, emphasizing the organization’s intent to bolster their defense following a year where they ranked last in the NFL in sacks.

Epps will now join a crowded safeties unit in New England that includes Kyle Dugger, Jabrill Peppers, and Marte Mapu. The team is looking to revamp its defensive strategy with recent acquisitions, and Epps’ experience will be vital as they prepare for the upcoming season.

More updates on player signings and the Patriots’ offseason activities are expected as free agency unfolds.
