Marcus Trufant to Raise 12th Man Flag for Seahawks Week 6 Game
The Seattle Seahawks are set to host their long-time rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, at Lumen Field on Thursday in a highly anticipated Week 6 matchup. Adding to the excitement of the game is the pre-kickoff tradition of raising the 12th Man Flag, a prerogative that will once again be carried out by Seahawks Legend and Pro Bowler, Marcus Trufant.
Trufant, who was originally the Seahawks’ 11th pick in the 2002 NFL draft, is no stranger to this honor, having raised the iconic flag before. Known for his substantial contributions to the team, Trufant spent 11 of his 12 NFL seasons with Seattle, cementing his place as a staple in the franchise’s secondary.
Throughout his career, Trufant recorded 646 tackles and 21 interceptions, with a standout performance in the 2007 season where he secured seven interceptions. Despite being a crucial, yet often unheralded member of the team, Trufant’s efforts played a significant role in bolstering the defensive unit that laid the groundwork for what would later be known as the Legion of Boom.
During his tenure, Trufant also experienced the privilege of playing under the guidance of renowned coach Pete Carroll for three years, from 2010 to 2012. One of his career highlights includes being a starter on the celebrated 2005 team that led the Seahawks to their first-ever Super Bowl appearance.
The Seahawks’ tradition of having a prominent Seattle personality raise the 12th Man Flag is an integral part of the game-day experience in the National Football League. Trufant’s role in Thursday’s ceremony underscores the nostalgic connection fans have with the team’s golden era, despite the team reportedly wearing uniforms reminiscent of the 1990s.
