Marine Johannès Returns to Liberty on One-Year Deal

New York, NY – The New York Liberty announced Friday that they have re-signed French combo guard Marine Johannès for the 2025 WNBA season. The deal is reportedly worth $66,079 and marks Johannès’ return after a year abroad, during which she helped the French national team earn a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb expressed enthusiasm about Johannès’ re-signing, stating, “It is a special opportunity to add Marine – who believed in our vision since 2019 – to a team once again competing for a title.” Kolb emphasized her impact on the team’s offensive capabilities, citing her floor spacing and dynamic playmaking skills.
At 30 years old, Johannès contributed significantly to the Liberty’s successful run in 2023, helping the team reach the WNBA Finals. She was the Liberty’s sixth player during that season, averaging eight points, 2.4 assists, and 1.6 rebounds across 78 career WNBA games. Her shooting percentages stand at 43.7% from the field and 39.5% from three-point range.
During her time with CBK Mersin in Turkey, Johannès has been averaging 13.6 points, 4.4 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game across both KBSL and EuroLeague competitions. Her performance further demonstrates her capability to elevate the Liberty’s offense as they defend their 2024 championship title.
Johannès’ signing comes on the heels of another major transaction for the Liberty. Recently, the team traded for Natasha Cloud from the Connecticut Sun, enhancing their roster depth as they prepare for the 2025 season. These strategic moves position the Liberty to be serious contenders once again.
As the team aims to keep its championship core intact, coach Sandy Brondello anticipates Johannès will play a crucial role in building on the team’s previous success. The Liberty is set to have 32 of its 44 regular-season games broadcast nationally or streamed during the upcoming season, highlighting their prominence in the league.
Johannès initially joined the Liberty in 2019 before opting out in 2020 due to the pandemic bubble and later missing the 2021 season to compete in the Olympics. Now, with a wealth of international experience, she is ready to contribute significantly in her fourth season in the WNBA.
