Mario Goodrich Joins Birmingham Stallions in Pursuit of Spring Football Success
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Former Clemson defensive back Mario Goodrich has signed with the Birmingham Stallions, a team with a proven track record of success in spring professional football leagues. The Stallions, who have claimed championships in the USFL and the XFL-merger-UFL since 2022, adds Goodrich to a roster that already features several Clemson alumni.
Goodrich, who played four games with one start for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, brings a strong collegiate resume to the Stallions. During his time at Clemson, he earned All-America honors and was named the Cheez-It Bowl MVP in 2021. Goodrich’s college career included 84 tackles, 15 pass breakups, five interceptions, and a forced fumble over 47 games.
“Mario’s experience at both the collegiate and professional levels will be a valuable asset to our team,” said Stallions head coach Skip Holtz. “We’re excited to see how he contributes to our defense as we aim for another championship season.”
The Missouri native originally signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2022, earning a fully guaranteed contract worth $217,000. After being waived by the Eagles, he was picked up by the New York Giants but did not see game action during his time there.
Goodrich’s addition to the Stallions comes as the team prepares for another competitive spring football season. The Stallions have emerged as a dominant force in the Spring professional football landscape, winning titles in both the USFL and the XFL-merger-UFL since their inception in 2022.
“Mario is a talented young player who has already shown he can perform at a high level,” said a Clemson football spokesperson. “We’re thrilled to see him get this opportunity to continue his career with the Stallions.”
With the addition of Goodrich, the Stallions continue to bolster their roster with experienced players looking to make an impact in the upcoming season. Fans of Clemson football will have another reason to tune in as they watch Goodrich compete alongside other Tigers in Birmingham.
