Mark Jankowski Likely Out Again for Hurricanes vs. Capitals

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Carolina Hurricanes may be without forward Mark Jankowski for the second straight game as they face the Washington Capitals in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Saturday evening. Jankowski is dealing with an undisclosed injury and remains a game-time decision.
Head coach Rod Brind'Amour shared during a morning media session that Jankowski skated earlier, but his status is doubtful for the matchup. As a result, Jack Roslovic is expected to step into Jankowski’s role again after playing 14:40 and winning 60 percent of his faceoffs in the last game.
In goal, Frederik Andersen is anticipated to make his third consecutive start. The veteran goaltender has been solid this postseason, allowing only three goals across the first two games of the series, placing him first among netminders with a 1.55 goals against average.
The Hurricanes currently hold home-ice advantage in the best-of-seven series. They tied the series 1-1 after splitting the first two games in Washington, with Carolina winning the opener 2-1 in overtime before dropping Game 2 3-1.
This playoff series marks the second encounter in postseason history between the Hurricanes and Capitals, who last faced each other in the playoffs in 2019.
The puck drops for Game 3 at 6 p.m. at Lenovo Center, and fans are expected to create an energetic atmosphere as the Hurricanes look to build on their home success. Carolina has won all three of their playoff games at home this year, backed by strong crowds.
Jankowski’s absence comes as the Hurricanes are already dealing with injuries, including Jesper Fast, who is out for the season with a neck injury. Brind’Amour stated the team is focused on minimizing turnovers to improve their game efficiency.
The Capitals have also made adjustments leading into Game 3. Coach Spencer Carbery noted their improvement in Game 2 and emphasized the need to maintain control when playing away from home.
