Marlins DFA Tim Anderson as Offensive Struggles Continue
In a surprising move, the Miami Marlins have designated veteran shortstop Tim Anderson for assignment as his offensive struggles persisted during his 65-game tenure with the team.
Anderson, a former AL batting champion, failed to meet expectations at the plate in Miami, posting a meager .214 batting average with just three extra-base hits in 234 at-bats.
Speaking on the decision, Marlins manager Skip Schumaker expressed the difficulty of parting ways with Anderson, highlighting his positive impact in the clubhouse and strong work ethic.
Tim Anderson, who spent his initial eight seasons with the Chicago White Sox, enjoyed a successful run with the team, including winning the AL batting title in 2019 with an impressive .335 average.
Following a decline in performance and injuries in his final season with the White Sox, Anderson hit free agency, eventually signing a one-year, $5 million deal with the Marlins under the tenure of first-year president Peter Bendix.
The Marlins have called up infielder Xavier Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville to fill Anderson’s spot on the roster, signaling a shift in their lineup following the DFA.
