Marlon Humphrey’s Stellar Season Anchors Ravens’ Defense
OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Marlon Humphrey, the Baltimore Ravens‘ standout cornerback, has been a pivotal force in the team’s defense during the 2024 NFL season. Known affectionately as “Marlo” by teammates and coaches, Humphrey has consistently delivered game-changing plays, earning him recognition as one of the league’s top defensive backs.
Humphrey’s season highlights include a crucial interception in Ravens territory with Baltimore trailing by three points and only three minutes remaining, leading to an overtime victory. He also recorded two interceptions against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Monday Night Football,” showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. His first career pick-six came in Week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a key divisional rival, further solidifying his reputation as a clutch player.
Teammates and coaches alike praise Humphrey’s unique personality and relentless work ethic. “He’s one of a kind, man,” said cornerback Brandon Stephens. “He comes with energy every day, just a high-energy guy. I don’t know another Marlo besides Marlo.” Wide receiver Nelson Agholor added, “He has a unique personality – charismatic, outgoing, definitely a team guy. So all in all, respect it and (got) love for the guy.”
Humphrey finished the season with 15 passes defended, a career-high six interceptions, and 50 solo tackles. His performance has been instrumental in the Ravens’ defensive turnaround, particularly in the latter half of the season. Since Week 11, the Ravens rank first in the NFL in expected points added (EPA) per dropback (-.15) and have surrendered only 15.1 points per game, a significant improvement from their earlier performances.
Ravens passing game coordinator Chris Hewitt emphasized Humphrey’s impact: “When Marlon’s healthy and playing at the level that he’s playing at, he makes us a better defense. He brings that grit. He brings the energy, and that’s what this defense is made up of.”
Humphrey’s leadership and consistency have been crucial as the Ravens prepare for their wild-card round matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. His ability to stay healthy and maintain a high level of play has been a key factor in the team’s success this season.
