San Sebastián, Spain — Martin Zubimendi, a promising midfielder for the Real Sociedad, is at the center of summer transfer speculation as he is under contract until 2027 with a 60 million euro release clause.

Reports suggest that Arsenal is ready to pay the release clause, with a verbal agreement already in place. Despite this, Zubimendi has not ruled out the possibility of remaining with Real Sociedad for the next season.

“There are certainly options, but it does seem this summer will be different and long. I’m here with the national team, and that’s my priority right now,” Zubimendi stated in an interview with Radio Nacional from the Spanish national team’s camp.

He reflected on the recent arrival of Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid and the theoretical notion of him playing under his idol. “It would be a great opportunity to work with someone who has inspired me, but I prefer to focus on the present and not talk about those kinds of hypotheses while in the national team jersey,” he added.

Recently, Zubimendi addressed rumors surrounding social media posts of him on the beach in San Sebastián while reports surfaced about his alleged signing in London. “I often wake up to read things I allegedly did, and those photos were meant to clarify that they did not reflect reality,” he explained.

Real Sociedad’s president, Jokin Aperribay, confirmed that Zubimendi is the only player from the club they have had ongoing discussions with about his future, stating, “We would like him to stay, but he is focused on this selection commitment. We told him to think things over while with Spain.”
