Maryland Terrapins Basketball Team Celebrating

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The University of Maryland men’s basketball team secured a No. 4 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament after a strong season, aiming for a deep postseason run.

The Terps, who finished second in the Big Ten, faced the Michigan Wolverines in the conference semifinals but fell short, losing on a last-second shot. Despite this setback, they achieved their highest seeding since 2015, when they also entered the tournament as a No. 4 seed.

Maryland’s performance this season has raised hopes among players and fans alike. With aspirations to reach the Sweet Sixteen — and potentially further — the Terps boast the nation’s highest-scoring starting five and a balanced offensive attack capable of scoring from all levels of the court. Furthermore, they rank in the top ten nationally for defensive efficiency, showcasing their well-rounded play.

Leading the charge for Maryland is freshman Derik Queen, who was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team. Queen has been instrumental in scoring and rebounding and is expected to be a key asset as the Terps prepare for their matchup.

The Terps will face the Grand Canyon University Antelopes, who clinched an automatic NCAA bid after winning the Western Athletic Conference. The Antelopes have NCAA tournament experience, having participated in three of the previous four seasons, presenting a worthy challenge for Maryland. Their first-round game is scheduled for Friday, March 21, in Seattle, with the exact time yet to be determined.

In addition to the Terps’ appearance, the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers men’s basketball team is making the tournament as well, entering the First Four as a No. 16 seed. They will go up against American University for a chance to face No. 1 seed Duke University in subsequent rounds.
