Maryland Basketball Team Ncaa Tournament March 2025

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — The University of Maryland men’s basketball team earned a No. 4 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament following a solid season, despite a narrow loss to Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals on March 15.

After finishing second in the Big Ten, the Terrapins are looking to make an impact in the tournament. They will face Grand Canyon University in the first round on March 21 in Seattle, a promising matchup for Maryland, who has not made it past the second round since 2015.

The Terps, known for their offensive firepower with the highest-scoring starting five in the nation, possess a well-rounded game that enables them to score from various levels. Their success is complemented by a top-ten defensive efficiency rating in the country, showcasing their balance on both ends of the court.

Freshman guard Derik Queen leads the team after being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and making the All-Big Ten First Team. Queen has been instrumental in the team’s performance, ranking first in both scoring and rebounding.

The matchup against Grand Canyon University, who received an automatic bid after winning the Western Athletic Conference, will not be an easy task. The Antelopes have made the NCAA Tournament three out of the past four seasons and have significant experience that could challenge Maryland.

Maryland’s first-round game against Grand Canyon is scheduled for March 21 in Seattle, with the exact time yet to be determined. Fans are anticipating a strong performance from the Terrapins and a hopeful push for a deep run in the tournament this year.

In other news, Mount St. Mary's University will also represent Maryland as a No. 16 seed in the NCAA Tournament, facing American University in the First Four for a shot at playing the No. 1 seed Duke University.
