Mason Crosby Green Bay Packers Kicker Retirement

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Mason Crosby, renowned as one of the greatest kickers in NFL history, has announced his retirement from football after a remarkable 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. General Manager Brian Gutekunst made the announcement Wednesday, marking the end of an era for the franchise.

Crosby was drafted by the Packers in the sixth round (193rd overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft out of the University of Colorado and quickly established himself as a cornerstone of the team. Over his career, he played in 258 regular-season games and 23 postseason contests, the most in Packers history. His tenure with Green Bay spanned from 2007 to 2022.

In his time with the Packers, Crosby set multiple franchise records, including career points scored (1,918), field goals made (395), and successful extra points (733). He also ranks first in team history for consecutive games played, with an impressive streak of 258 games.

During his 16 years with the team, Crosby helped the Packers secure a Super Bowl victory and nine division titles. He was part of six NFC Championship teams and appeared in the playoffs 12 times throughout his career.

Crosby’s ability to consistently score was notable; he recorded over 100 points in 15 seasons, placing him third all-time in NFL history behind Adam Vinatieri (21 seasons) and Jason Elam (16 seasons).

His accuracy was paramount, highlighted by a remarkable 100 percent success rate on field goal attempts during the 2020 season, where he made all 16 attempts. This performance shattered previous franchise records and placed Crosby atop the list for field goal percentage in a single season among kickers with regular-season attempts.

Notably, he is one of only two players in NFL history, alongside Jason Hanson of the Detroit Lions, to achieve over 1,900 points with a single team across more than 250 games played.

After his long and illustrious career with the Packers, Crosby played three games for the New York Giants in 2023. Currently, he hosts “The Mason Crosby Show” on 105.7 The Fan radio in Milwaukee, where he shares his experiences and insights from his extensive career in professional football.

As part of his legacy, Crosby leaves behind a storied career that will resonate with Packers fans for years to come, solidifying his place in the franchise’s history.
