Masters Tournament Weather Looks Promising After Years of Chaos

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The Masters Tournament officially kicks off today, April 10, 2025, at Augusta National Golf Club, bringing a promising weather forecast that contrasts sharply with recent years marked by severe disruptions.
Following a turbulent start earlier this week when thunderstorms forced the evacuation of Augusta National during Monday’s practice rounds, players are now poised to compete for the coveted green jacket. AccuWeather predicts a high of 75 degrees Fahrenheit with a minimal 6 percent chance of rain. Mild winds from the south at about 7 mph will create a comfortable atmosphere as top players, including Rory McIlroy and defending champion Scottie Scheffler, take to the course.
Monday’s practice round was abruptly suspended around 11:25 a.m. due to dangerous weather conditions, which included a significant downpour that left over an inch of rain on the course. Fans who purchased tickets for that day were refunded, and Fred Ridley, chairman of Augusta National Golf Club, emphasized the club’s commitment to safety. “We look forward to welcoming back our Monday patrons next year,” Ridley stated.
Fortunately, the weather improved significantly on Tuesday and Wednesday, allowing practice rounds to proceed uninterrupted. However, challenges may arise as Friday’s forecast predicts a 40 percent chance of rain early and late in the day, along with winds gusting up to 38 mph. These gusty winds could complicate club selection during pivotal moments, particularly on the challenging par-3 12th hole, known for its deceptive currents.
“Good luck picking a club on the par-3 12th, gentlemen,” joked a sports analyst, underscoring the unique difficulties posed by Augusta’s unpredictable conditions.
Looking ahead to the weekend, AccuWeather indicates clear skies, with a zero percent chance of precipitation for both Saturday and Sunday, and temperatures reaching highs of 65 and 71 degrees, respectively. This ideal weather is expected to provide a perfect backdrop for the final rounds of the tournament where the champion will be crowned.
Fans can tune in to live coverage of the Masters on ESPN and CBS, starting from 2 p.m. BST on Thursday and Friday, with full coverage commencing at 7:30 p.m. BST. This year’s tournament boasts a record $20 million prize purse, creating heightened anticipation. Last year, Scottie Scheffler claimed $3.6 million for his victory, leaving spectators eager to witness how this year’s competitors will perform.
As the tournament progresses, excitement will build around whether McIlroy can secure his first green jacket, completing a career grand slam, or if Scheffler will successfully defend his title. Meanwhile, as players navigate Augusta’s challenging course and the changing weather conditions, they will need to ensure each swing counts under pressure.
The stage is now set for an exciting Masters, promising memorable moments as the world’s best golfers vie for supremacy. Stay tuned for updates on scores and highlights as the competition unfolds.
