Matildas Star Cortnee Vine Signs Lucrative 3-Year Deal with US NWSL Club
Matildas winger Cortnee Vine has inked a three-year contract with North Carolina Courage in the esteemed National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States, securing her professional future until the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
This move marks a significant transition for Vine, 26, departing from the A-League Women competition after enjoying a successful tenure with Sydney FC, where she amassed an impressive 30 goals in 65 appearances for the Sky Blues.
Upon the completion of her US visa processing, Vine will become eligible to join the Courage starting August 1. However, her integration into the club is expected to occur post the Matildas’ campaign at the Paris Olympics.
"The biggest reason I’m excited to join the Courage is their style of play," noted Vine in a statement released following her contract signing. "They play beautiful, possession-based football. And I’m excited to be part of the culture."
Vine’s exceptional domestic form at Sydney FC propelled her onto the national stage, culminating in her memorable heroics during the Matildas’ World Cup quarterfinal shootout victory against France last year.
Sydney FC confirmed Vine’s departure after she led the club to a consecutive grand final triumph, capping off her time with the Sky Blues on a high note.
"We are thrilled to add Cortnee to our club," expressed Courage coach Sean Nahas in a statement. "She has great international experience and can come in and instantly help us day in and day out. She’s an explosive player both on and off the ball and will fit in perfectly with our style of play."
