Matt Coronato Signs Long-Term Deal with Flames Following Career Best Season

Calgary, Alberta – The Calgary Flames have signed forward Matt Coronato to a seven-year contract extension worth $45.5 million, averaging $6.5 million annually. The announcement came on Saturday, May 3, 2025, following Coronato’s breakout season with the team.
Coronato, 22, had a remarkable year, setting NHL career highs with 24 goals, 23 assists, and 47 points in 77 games. His performance places him third on the Flames in both goals and points, trailing only veterans Nazem Kadri and Jonathan Huberdeau. ‘Matt wants to be here long term, and that says a lot about him and where this is kind of going, moving forward,’ Flames general manager Craig Conroy said.
The New York native was initially drafted by Calgary as the 13th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. Before this season, Coronato spent significant time in the AHL, scoring 42 points in 45 games with the Calgary Wranglers during the 2022-23 season.
Despite a promising showing, the Flames narrowly missed the playoffs this year, losing a tiebreaker for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Nevertheless, the team remains optimistic about their future, especially with a young core emerging, including Coronato and Connor Zary.
Coronato was set to represent Team USA at the upcoming IIHF World Championship but withdrew due to an undisclosed injury that was revealed after an MRI in April. His recovery timeline remains uncertain.
With two first-round picks in this year’s draft and ample cap space, the Flames look poised for a strong future.
