Matt Fitzpatrick Billy Foster Golf Caddie Split

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — Matt Fitzpatrick has officially parted ways with caddie Billy Foster after six successful years together. The announcement follows Fitzpatrick’s recent performance at The Players Championship, where he struggled and ultimately missed the weekend cut.

Foster shared the news on Instagram, reflecting on their time together, stating, “Well after 6 great years, all good things come to an end. This game never stops to frustrate you and infuriate you… Unfortunately, times change, and ultimately it’s the caddie or the coach that has to accept results are not good enough.” He added, “Thanks, Matt; we had a great run, and who knows where the next chapter will go. Onwards & Upwards.”

The split comes as Fitzpatrick has experienced a downturn in form, slipping from a ranking of 10th last April to 61st before the championship, marking his lowest position in almost a decade. He began the year with a T24 finish at The Sentry, highlighting a disappointing start.

Fitzpatrick and Foster collaborated starting in 2018 after Foster’s tenure with Lee Westwood. Their partnership was marked by significant achievements, including Fitzpatrick’s victory in the 2022 U.S. Open. After that historic win, Fitzpatrick praised Foster’s influence, stating, “I think that’s the one thing that I’ve learnt more and more certainly over the last few years, particularly with Billy on the bag…is just to stay patient and the birdies will come, basically.”

Foster was instrumental during Fitzpatrick’s notable performances, including at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the dramatic 2023 Ryder Cup, where Team Europe triumphed.

News of their split prompted reactions from the golfing community. A teammate of Fitzpatrick at the Ryder Cup responded to Foster’s Instagram post, saying, “Congrats on a great run. It was so epic to see how much you enjoyed the U.S. Open win especially.” Sky Sports Golf also acknowledged their partnership, congratulating them on a “great journey together.”

In January, Foster had announced plans to reduce his caddying commitments after a lengthy 42-year career and take on Dan Parrott as a shared caddie. Fitzpatrick has yet to name a successor as he looks ahead to the Masters, the first major championship of the year, which is just weeks away.
