Matt Ryan Inducted into Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor
Matt Ryan, regarded as the greatest quarterback in Atlanta Falcons history, was officially inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor on Thursday night. The ceremony took place at halftime during the Falcons’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, highlighting Ryan’s illustrious career with the franchise.
Ryan, who was traded from the Falcons back in 2022, concludes his time as a player with numerous franchise records. These include completion percentage, passing yardage, passing touchdowns, and game-winning drives. “There was never any question that Ryan was heading to the Falcons Ring of Honor,” stated a spokesperson for the team. Ryan’s achievements with the team also include their single Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Over his career with the Falcons, which began when he was selected third overall in the 2008 NFL Draft, Ryan led Atlanta to significant successes. This includes five consecutive winning seasons and four playoff appearances early in his career, not to mention an NFC Conference Championship in 2012. His career highs were underscored by a revitalized passing attack under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in 2016, leading to his MVP season.
Despite ending his NFL career without a Super Bowl victory, Ryan’s contributions have solidified his standing as a franchise and league great. At his retirement, he ranked seventh in NFL history for passing yardage, ninth for passing touchdowns, and was noted for his number of fourth quarter comebacks.
In addition to his achievements on the field, Ryan has been a notable figure within the Atlanta community. His contributions off the field, through charity work and active engagement, have earned him the admiration of fans and peers alike as he embarks on a career in broadcasting.
As Ryan takes his place among other Falcons legends such as owner Arthur Blank, Jessie Tuggle, Roddy White, and Deion Sanders, the ceremony marked both a fitting tribute to a celebrated career and a poignant moment for fans reflecting on his impact in Atlanta and beyond.
