Mavericks’ Davis Joins Legends As He Recovers from Injury

DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Mavericks have assigned 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis to the Texas Legends, their G League affiliate, as he continues to recover from a strained left adductor. Davis aims to participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages while he ramps up for a return after being sidelined since Feb. 8.
Davis made his debut with the Mavericks earlier this season, contributing 26 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 blocks in a single game. However, that game was cut short due to injury. Despite discussions around potentially shutting down Davis for the remainder of the season, he remains determined to return to the court.
In addition to Davis, guard Frank Ntilikina has been assigned to the Legends after missing the past seven games due to a sprained ankle. The Mavericks have faced considerable challenges with their roster, often fielding only eight active players during games.
The injury-plagued Mavericks are nearing the limits of their two-way players’ active NBA games, which means they could lose two key contributors soon. Meanwhile, the team holds an open roster spot and is eligible for a hardship exception but faces challenges due to salary cap constraints.
As the team navigates through this difficult stretch, the Mavericks are holding onto hope that both Davis and Ntilikina can return to strengthen the squad in the coming weeks.
