Mavericks Face Timberwolves with Depleted Roster Due to Injuries
DALLAS, Texas — The Dallas Mavericks faced the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night with a significantly depleted roster, as five players were ruled out and two others downgraded to inactive status just before tip-off. The game, broadcast on ESPN, highlighted the team’s ongoing injury struggles during the 2024-25 NBA season.
Klay Thompson, who sustained a left ankle sprain, and Naji Marshall, sidelined due to illness, were both downgraded to out prior to the game. They joined Luka Doncic (calf strain), Dereck Lively II (foot fracture), Dante Exum (wrist surgery), Jaden Hardy (ankle sprain), and Dwight Powell (hip strain) on the bench. Thompson and Marshall had played in Dallas’ previous game against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday, with Thompson even attempting the final shot. The cause of Thompson’s ankle injury remains unclear.
Quentin Grimes, who missed Monday’s game with back spasms, was cleared to play. He joined Kyrie Irving, Spencer Dinwiddie, P.J. Washington, Maxi Kleber, Daniel Gafford, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and Markieff Morris as the primary active players for the Mavericks. Two-way players Kessler Edwards, Brandon Williams, and Jazian Gortman were also available.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves entered the game with only two absences: Donte DiVincenzo and Terrence Shannon Jr. The game tipped off at approximately 6:30 p.m. CST at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
The Mavericks’ injury woes have been a recurring theme this season, with key players frequently sidelined. Despite these challenges, the team has relied on its depth and resilience to remain competitive. Fans can follow updates throughout the season on MavericksGameday and Austin Veazey’s coverage.
