Max Verstappen Secures Pole Position at Miami Grand Prix

Miami, FL — Max Verstappen clinched pole position for the 2025 Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix on Saturday, overcoming a disappointing Sprint race to clock in the fastest lap during qualifying. The Red Bull driver edged out Lando Norris of McLaren by a mere fraction of a second.
Despite narrowly missing the top spot, Norris expressed satisfaction with his performance, especially as he outpaced his teammate and current drivers’ championship leader, Oscar Piastri, by just a tenth of a second.
“I’m pleased with the effort today,” said Norris. “I was able to push hard, and I think we have great pace for the race.”
Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli also made headlines by securing a strong qualifying performance, joining the top three finishers. The weekend has already proven to be one of the most competitive of the season.
The Miami Grand Prix weekend is packed with events from May 2 to May 4, featuring a mix of high-speed racing and fan experiences. This year, fans can look forward to the return of the Sprint format, along with additional events such as the F1 Academy and Porsche Carrera Cup North America.
The Miami International Autodrome will be the venue, located around Hard Rock Stadium, offering multiple vantage points for spectators. The event has gained momentum since its inception, attracting record numbers of fans last year, and is expected to bring even more spectators this time.
Qualifying on Saturday was marked by intense competition, highlighted by the tight gaps between all top finishers. The unpredictable Miami weather adds an additional layer of excitement as forecasts indicate a possibility of rain during race day on Sunday.
“Weather can play a huge role in strategy,” noted Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. “We’ll be keeping a close eye on the conditions.”
Teams are strategizing accordingly, aware that changing conditions could impact tire choices and overall race outcomes. As the drivers prepare to take the grid, all eyes are on Verstappen to defend his pole position against a determined field.
