Max Verstappen Baby Daughter Announcement

MIAMI — Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula 1 world champion, announced the birth of his first child with partner Kelly Piquet on May 2, 2025. The couple welcomed a baby girl named Lily, a joyous addition to their family.

Red Bull Racing confirmed Verstappen’s absence from the media day before the Miami Grand Prix, noting he was with his family during this special time. The team stated, “Max will attend track tomorrow for the race weekend.” Prior to the birth, Verstappen expressed his commitment to balancing his racing career and family life, remarking, “I have done it already, so it is not like it is completely new for me.”

Verstappen shared the news on social media, writing, “Welcome to the world, sweet Lily. Our hearts are fuller than ever — you are our greatest gift. We love you so much.” This announcement came shortly after Verstappen confirmed they were expecting a child during the 2024 season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Both Verstappen and Piquet have ties to racing, as her father is three-time world champion Nelson Piquet, and Verstappen’s father, Jos, also competed in Formula 1. Lily will follow in a family legacy rich with racing heritage; her mother, Sophie Kumpen, has her own racing background.

On media day, other drivers shared their well wishes for Verstappen. Nico Hülkenberg, who is the only other father in the current driver lineup, humorously noted, “I hope it’s a good sleeper.” Lewis Hamilton expressed his excitement, stating, “I just wish him all the best. It’s such an amazing, special thing. Big congrats to him.”

As Verstappen gears up for the Miami Grand Prix, he remains focused on both his new role as a father and his racing career, ready to compete this weekend.
