Medvedev and Bublik Advance in Halle ATP 500

Halle, Germany — Daniil Medvedev continued his strong start to the season with a decisive victory over Daniel Altmaier at the Terra Wortmann Open on June 16, 2025. The third-seeded player won the match 6-3, 6-3, marking his 20th win of the year and securing his place in the second round of the grass-court tournament.
Medvedev, who reached the finals of this tournament in 2022, completed the match in just 63 minutes. He expressed his satisfaction with the venue, stating, “It’s a very convenient place to play tennis,” referring to the tournament’s proximity to the on-site hotel and practice courts.
The 29-year-old former world No. 1 saved both break points he faced during the match and converted three out of six break points against Altmaier. Medvedev reflected on his performance, saying, “I felt great, honestly. I think I played a great match.”
In the same tournament, last year’s champion Alexander Bublik also advanced, defeating Alexandre Muller 6-4, 6-4. Bublik displayed a strong performance, winning five consecutive games to seize control of the match and improve his tournament record to 7-1.
Bublik will now face either defending champion Jannik Sinner or qualifier Yannick Hanfmann in the next round. Additionally, young star Joao Fonseca is competing this week, excited fans in Halle, a town of 20,000, as he seeks his first tour-level grass win.
