Medvedev Dominates Match, Eyes ATP Masters 1000 Title

MADRID, Spain — Daniil Medvedev showcased his prowess on Sunday, winning decisively against Argentine qualifier as he seeks his first title since 2023.
The 29-year-old Medvedev, a six-time ATP Masters 1000 champion, defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-2 in just 62 minutes during the first round of the ATP Madrid Open. Medvedev had received a walkover in his second-round match, but he quickly found his rhythm.
“I felt good in practice here, but it’s not the same in a match,” said Medvedev after the victory. “For sure I was a bit nervous because we have a small superstition as tennis players: the worse you play before the tournament, the better you play in it.”
Medvedev, currently ranked No. 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings, seeks to complete semi-finals at all nine ATP Masters 1000 events, having already won six titles at this level. He will face American player in the next round.
“I’m happy with my level,” he concluded. In this match, Medvedev saved the only break point he faced and converted four of five chances he created, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
In addition to Medvedev’s match, other notable matches and predictions continue to shape the tournament as the Madrid Open heats up.
