Halle, GermanyDaniil Medvedev defeated Daniel Altmaier in straight sets on Monday at the Terra Wortmann Open, marking his 20th win of the 2025 season.

As the third seed, Medvedev managed a convincing 6-3, 6-3 victory in just 63 minutes, advancing to the second round of the grass-court ATP 500 tournament where he was the runner-up in 2022.

“It’s a very convenient place to play tennis,” Medvedev said. He praised the venue for its proximity to player amenities, noting the hotel is only a two-minute walk from practice courts and center court. “It even feels a bit strange. I’m a bit scared of overdoing it too much, going to sleep and missing the match! So it’s a fun tournament and I’m always happy to come back.”

Currently ranked No. 10 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, Medvedev converted three out of six break points against Altmaier and did not face any break points in the first set. “I felt great, honestly,” he added. “I think I played a great match. Some moments where I had to be decisive, I managed to do it.”

Before arriving in Halle, Medvedev advanced to the quarter-finals at ‘s-Hertogenbosch. He now holds a 20-12 record for the 2025 season.

In another match, 2023 champion Alexander Bublik also progressed, defeating his opponent in a similar 6-4, 6-4 match within 61 minutes. Bublik will face the top seed or a qualifier in the next round.

The tournament continued with other matches as well, with thrilling results adding excitement for fans in attendance.
