Meghan Markle Mourns Beloved Rescue Dog Guy in Emotional Tribute
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is mourning the loss of her beloved rescue dog, Guy, who passed away recently. In a heartfelt Instagram post on January 7, 2025, the 43-year-old royal shared a 90-second video montage filled with previously unseen family photos and videos of her cherished beagle.
Guy, a rescue from a Kentucky kill shelter, had been a constant companion to Meghan since 2015. The emotional tribute included moments of the dog with Meghan, Prince Harry, and their children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. Meghan expressed her grief in the caption, writing, ‘Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.’
The montage opened with a touching shot of Meghan squatting to pet Guy outside, followed by intimate moments of the family with their furry friend. One photo showed Meghan and Guy cozied up in bed, while another captured Prince Harry nuzzling the beagle during his recovery from a ‘terrible accident.’ Meghan revealed that she and Harry would drive late at night to visit Guy as he healed in Surrey for months.
Guy played a significant role in the couple’s life, even being present during Prince Harry’s proposal at their Nottingham Cottage home. The dog moved with Meghan to the U.K. and became a beloved member of the Sussex family. In his memoir, ‘Spare,’ Prince Harry wrote fondly of Guy, stating, ‘I loved that dog.’
The tribute also featured rare glimpses of Archie and Lilibet, who have largely been kept out of the public eye. In one clip, Archie is seen walking Guy alongside Prince Harry and the family’s Labrador, Pula. Another video shows Meghan comforting one of her children in the backseat of a car, reassuring them, ‘He’s not gonna fall. Don’t you worry. Mama has him.’
Meghan’s post highlighted the deep bond she shared with Guy, who was with her through major life events, including her engagement, marriage, and motherhood. She also hinted at Guy’s appearance in her upcoming Netflix series, expressing hope that viewers would ‘fall a little bit in love’ with him too.
The Duchess concluded her tribute with a poignant message: ‘I have cried too many tears to count — the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too.’
