2025 Men’s Beanpot Kicks Off Monday: BU, Harvard, BC, and Northeastern Battle for Glory
BOSTON, Mass. — The 72nd annual Men’s Beanpot, one of Boston’s most storied college hockey tournaments, begins Monday, February 3, at TD Garden. The No. 10 Boston University Terriers will face Harvard University at 5 p.m., followed by a clash between reigning champion Northeastern University and top-ranked Boston College at 8 p.m. The winners will advance to the championship game on February 10, while the losers compete in a consolation match.
“I don’t think it matters how any of the four teams are doing throughout the course of the year. This tournament takes on a life of its own,” said BU head coach Jay Pandolfo during the January 27 Beanpot Media Day. “You can’t replicate this tournament anywhere else.”
The Terriers, who hold a record 31 Beanpot titles, enter the tournament with a 14-9-1 record. Despite a rocky start to the season, BU has shown promise with standout performances from freshmen like forward Quinn Hutson (SHA’26), who leads the team in assists with 17, and defenseman Jack Eiserman (CAS’28), who tops the team in goals with 15. Senior goaltender Mathieu Caron (CAS’25) has started most games, but freshman Michael Yegorov (CAS’28) impressed in a recent outing against Boston College, making 23 saves and allowing just one goal.
Harvard, the only non-Hockey East team in the tournament, comes in with a 7-11-2 record. Junior forward Joe Miller leads the Crimson in scoring with 15 points, while junior Casey Severo tops the team with 8 goals. Harvard’s two-goalie system features freshman Ben Charette, who boasts a .920 save percentage, and junior Aku Koskenvuo, who holds a .903 save percentage.
Boston College, ranked No. 1 nationally, enters the Beanpot with a 19-4-1 record. The Eagles are led by sophomore assistant captain Ryan Leonard, who leads the NCAA in goals per game and is a contender for the Hobey Baker Award. Sophomore goaltender Jacob Fowler has been a standout, leading Hockey East in save percentage and earning six shutouts this season.
Northeastern, the defending champion, seeks its third consecutive Beanpot title despite a 9-12-3 record this season. Junior forward Jack Williams leads the Huskies in scoring with 29 points, while sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead has a .915 save percentage. Northeastern defeated Boston College 3-0 earlier this season, offering hope for another upset.
The BU Student Alumni Association will host a free watch party for students at Sunset Cantina during the semifinal game, with light appetizers and specialty Beanpot swag for the first 100 attendees. Tickets for the tournament are available online, and all games will be broadcast live on NESN and streamed on ESPN+.
