Met Gala 2025 Celebrates Black Dandyism with Star-Studded Arrivals

NEW YORK, NY — The Met Gala 2025 dazzled onlookers as celebrities made their way down the blue carpet, showcasing fashion inspired by Black culture and history. This year, the theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was inspired by Monica L. Miller‘s 2009 book, celebrating the impact of Black dandyism from the Harlem Renaissance to today.
A$AP Rocky, one of the co-chairs for the event, confirmed the news of Rihanna‘s pregnancy with their third child as he entered the gala. “Rihanna’s outfit tonight is… just don’t cover her baby hump, you dig?” he remarked. Although she did not join him on the carpet, her stunning look was shared online.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris was among the notable attendees, wearing a striking black-and-white dress by Off-White’s IB Kamara. “Art has always had a significant impact on culture and our policies,” Harris told reporters. “Artistic expression captures the mood of the people without words.”
Pharrell Williams, a Met Gala co-chair, designed custom outfits for several stars, including Sabrina Carpenter, who joked about the difficulty of using the restroom in her couture. Other designers like Balmain and Grace Wales Bonner contributed to the creativity displayed on the carpet.
Fans celebrated unique interpretations of the evening’s theme, with Usher flying in from Europe just to attend and express the importance of community. Lewis Hamilton, wearing an ivory suit inspired by Cab Calloway and the Harlem Renaissance, stated, “We wanted to pay homage to African culture by the power of adornment.”
Notable arrivals included Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who attracted attention for their glamorous looks, while models like Gigi Hadid paid tribute to historical figures in their fashion choices. Diana Ross made a commanding entrance in a crystal gown embroidered with the names of her children, showcasing family ties in her fashion.
Guests were observed enjoying the glamorous atmosphere despite the rainy weather, which had been anticipated for the evening. Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue and a long-time gala chair, noted that the exhibition aimed to highlight the creativity and joy in Black culture, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity.
The night wrapped up with promises of continued celebrations inside, with fans eagerly awaiting images shared from the invitation-only event. As the blue carpet festivities concluded, the star power and vibrant representation of Black culture made a significant statement in the world of fashion.
