Metallica Concerts Set to Draw Large Crowds in Edmonton
Rock legends Metallica are scheduled to perform two concerts at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, this weekend. The band, known for hits such as ‘Enter Sandman’ and ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ has generated considerable excitement among fans ahead of the shows.
As part of their North American leg of the tour, Metallica will take the stage on Friday night and Sunday night. The concerts mark the first performances in Canada since 2018, with the only other city on their tour schedule being Montreal.
Excitement is palpable, as evidenced by the long lines at a pop-up store selling band merchandise near Edmonton’s Exhibition Lands. Fans began lining up as early as 4 a.m. on Thursday, although the store did not open until 11 a.m. One dedicated fan even traveled from St. John's specifically to attend the concert.
In anticipation of the large crowds, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has issued a warning regarding potential traffic and pedestrian congestion near Commonwealth Stadium. Significant road closures are expected, specifically on Stadium Road between 92nd Street and 112th Avenue, beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday.
The EPS plans to close Stadium Road again following the concert at 11 p.m. and will keep it closed until all concert-goers have safely left the area. Detours will be in place during the closures.
Local authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area or consider alternative routes during these times. They have also reminded concert-goers to enjoy the event responsibly and ensure they have a safe and sober transportation option for returning home.
