Meteorological Summer Begins Amid Warm Weather Predictions

Decatur, Illinois – June 1 marks the start of meteorological summer, a season defined by the months of June, July, and August. Meteorologists establish this timeframe for easier record-keeping, and this year, it begins today and runs until August 31.
The astronomical summer, determined by the summer solstice, will occur on Friday, June 21, at 9:42 PM Eastern Time. Chief Meteorologist Jim Kosek emphasized that meteorologists rely on the origin of approaching air masses to forecast weather patterns, rather than just dates on a calendar.
The Climate Prediction Center indicates that most areas in the Lower 48 states could experience warmer-than-average conditions throughout the summer months. However, short-term cold weather patterns may still occur intermittently.
The outlook suggests drier-than-average weather is expected for parts of the Rockies, the Northwest, and the Plains. In contrast, the East Coast is anticipated to receive above-average precipitation during these months.
As the summer season officially begins, residents across the nation can expect a mix of warm weather, potential rainfall, and climatic variations.
