Mets Acquire Pitcher Justin Garza from Giants for Cash

New York, NY – The New York Mets have made a trade with the San Francisco Giants to acquire right-handed pitcher Justin Garza for cash considerations, according to reports on Saturday.
Garza, 31, has been with the Giants organization, spending the entire 2025 season at Triple-A Sacramento. His performance this year shows a mixed bag, with a 6.11 ERA and 1.151 WHIP. However, he has a 20:6 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 17.2 innings, indicating he has performed better than the numbers suggest.
Originally selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the eighth round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Garza made his Major League debut in 2021. Over his two seasons in the big leagues, he has accumulated 28.2 innings pitched with a 4.71 ERA and a strikeout rate of 22.7%. Despite these numbers, he also struggled with walks, issuing 14.1% during his appearances.
In the Minor Leagues, his statistics have varied. He enjoyed success at Triple-A last year with a 1.57 ERA but found challenges in 2022, where he did not reach the majors. This season split between the Angels and the Red Sox proved difficult as well, culminating in a troublesome 7.36 ERA during a short stint with Boston.
Garza is now expected to bolster the Mets’ depth during a season where their bullpen has already faced injury issues. Team officials hope that a change of scenery will help Garza rediscover his form.
As fans react to the trade, some have expressed skepticism about Garza’s potential impact. Regardless, the Mets appear committed to giving him a chance to contribute as they look ahead to the rest of the season.
