Mets Claim Right-Handed Pitcher Kevin Herget From Brewers
The New York Mets have made a significant move in the early stages of MLB free agency by claiming right-handed pitcher Kevin Herget off waivers from the Milwaukee Brewers. This move was reported by Robert Murray of FanSided and confirms the Mets’ ongoing efforts to enhance their pitching depth.
Kevin Herget, a 33-year-old native of Park Ridge, New Jersey, has experience in the major leagues, having played for teams such as the Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, and most recently, the Milwaukee Brewers. Throughout his career, Herget has appeared in 24 games, accumulating a 4.64 ERA and a 1.72 WHIP over 42.2 innings pitched.
Notably, Herget performed well in a limited role for the Brewers last season, achieving a 1.59 ERA in seven appearances, with nine strikeouts and just three walks. This acquisition aligns with the Mets’ strategy of bolstering their pitching roster with both prominent and lesser-known players who can contribute significantly to the team’s success.
The signing of Herget follows another recent move by the Mets, where they secured another right-handed pitcher with a one-year major league contract. The Mets’ president of baseball operations has emphasized that the team is open to exploring all available player options, including both stars and players who might fly under the radar but can play crucial roles in the postseason.
