Edwin Diaz Mets Injury Citi Field

FLUSHING, New York — The New York Mets experienced a troubling moment during Wednesday’s game when closer Edwin Diaz exited the field in the 10th inning after appearing to show discomfort. Diaz walked off the mound accompanied by a trainer, but no immediate update on his condition was provided.

During the game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field, Diaz allowed a go-ahead single to Nick Castellanos. He was just one pitch into his at-bat against J.T. Realmuto when he signaled to the dugout, prompting concern from the coaching staff.

Before the injury, Diaz had pitched a flawless ninth inning, featuring 11 pitches. It was his first time pitching for more than one inning this season. Unfortunately, he threw seven pitches in the 10th before needing to leave the game.

The Mets’ bullpen faced challenges throughout the game, having already used Huascar Brazobán, Danny Young, and Jose Butto. With Diaz out, Max Kranick was called upon to pitch, despite having already thrown for over two innings on Monday.

This season, Diaz has saved six games, though he has not been as dominant as in previous performances. The team and fans will be anxious for updates regarding his health after this troubling incident.
