Mets Face Cardinals in Crucial Game 2 at Citi Field

NEW YORK, NY — The New York Mets will try to extend their series lead against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of their matchup on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Citi Field. The game is set to begin at 7:10 p.m. ET and will be broadcasted on SNY and the FanDuel Sports Network Midwest, with out-of-market viewers able to stream the game on MLB.TV.
The Mets enter the game with a 1-0 series lead after defeating the Cardinals 4-1 on Thursday, making their overall record 12-7, including a remarkable 6-1 at home. The team has shown strength in areas such as pitching, having a 2.66 earned run average over the last ten games, and a striking 9-3 record in games where they did not give up a home run.
“We’re focused on keeping the momentum going,” said Mets manager Buck Showalter. “Every game is important as we build towards the postseason.”
The Cardinals, currently with a record of 9-10 and sitting fourth in the NL Central, are looking to bounce back from the loss against the Mets. Their away performance has not been favorable, with just 1-6 on the road this season. Despite the rough road record, the Cardinals boast a strong team slugging percentage of .420, ranking sixth in the majors.
“We can’t afford to drop another game,” said Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol. “It’s pivotal that we put together solid at-bats and execute our game plan.”
On the pitching front, Miles Mikolas is set to take the mound for the Cardinals. Mikolas has struggled this season, posting an 0-2 record with a 9.00 ERA in his outings. The Mets will counter with David Peterson, whose 2.70 ERA and 17 strikeouts this season provide hope for another strong Mets performance.
In the lineup, New York‘s Peter Alonso is leading the charge, hitting five home runs so far this season, while Francisco Lindor has recently been in solid form, batting .333 in the last 10 games. For the Cardinals, Nolan Arenado has been a standout, recording six doubles and two home runs in the same timeframe.
Injuries have plagued both teams; the Mets have several key players on the disabled list, including Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez, while the Cardinals are managing the absences of Masyn Winn and Ivan Herrera.
This matchup promises excitement as both teams look to capitalize on their strengths and rectify any weaknesses. With the Mets having the advantage after last night’s victory, it remains to be seen whether the Cardinals can rally for a comeback.
