NEW YORK, New York — The New York Mets faced off against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, where an injury to star player Jeff McNeil cast a shadow over the game. McNeil left the field in the seventh inning after pulling his left hamstring while attempting to stretch for a triple.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza addressed the situation, stating, “Felt like a cramp in the left hamstring, but he’s fine. I was going to be aggressive anyway with [Jose] Azocar there. Trainers took a look at him, he’s fine. Nothing to worry about.”

McNeil’s injury occurred while he was running from second base to third. Although some initial concern arose about his condition, the player was replaced by Azocar as a precaution. The Mets went on to secure a 7-1 victory over the Diamondbacks.

The team will take a break on Thursday before hosting the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field on Friday. McNeil hopes to recover in time for that game after previously missing some of the season due to an oblique strain. So far, McNeil has played in just 10 games this season, hitting .229 with one home run and five RBIs.

The Mets have faced several injury issues this season, but there has been some positive news lately. Infielder Ronny Mauricio, who has been rehabilitating from a torn ACL in his right knee, played his fifth rehab game with Single-A St. Lucie on May 6 and will transition to Double-A Binghamton starting May 9. Additionally, pitcher Frankie Montas is making strides in his recovery from a high-grade right lat strain and could return to action by late May or June.

The Mets currently hold a record of 24-14, leading the NL East by two games, with the Philadelphia Phillies trailing at 21-15. The team continues to navigate through its challenges while maintaining a competitive edge.
