Mets Look to Extend Dominance with Megill on Mound Against Nationals

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The New York Mets aim to build on their recent success as they face the Washington Nationals on Sunday, April 27, 2025. The game at Nationals Park features a matchup between standout pitchers Tylor Megill and Mitchell Parker, each boasting impressive season statistics.
The Mets, coming off a 2-0 victory on Saturday, currently lead Major League Baseball with 19 wins this season. Megill, who holds a 3-2 record with a stellar 1.09 ERA, hopes to impress again after striking out 10 batters in his last outing against the Philadelphia Phillies.
“I’m just trying to take it one pitch at a time,” said Megill about his performance. “I feel confident in my stuff this year.”
Megill’s journey includes some challenges; while he’s managed to pitch into the sixth inning three times this season, he has struggled to close it out, recording only two outs. Last season, he faced the Nationals twice, allowing six runs over 11 innings.
On the other side of the diamond, Nationals’ Mitchell Parker, with a 3-1 record and a 1.39 ERA, is coming off his best start this season, where he held the Baltimore Orioles to one hit over eight innings. Parker has shown significant improvement from last year when he posted a 4.29 ERA over 151 innings.
“I’m taking a different approach this year. Staying focused on every pitch has helped me a lot,” Parker said. “I know the Mets can hit but I’m just going to trust my stuff.”
The Mets’ lineup includes key players such as Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso. Lindor has been a consistent on-base presence, reaching safely three times in his most recent game, while Alonso continues to generate power at the plate. Additionally, rookie Dylan Crews has been a thorn in the Mets’ side, going 5-for-8 in the series.
The stakes on Sunday are notable. While the Mets are at the top of the division, the Nationals are struggling, sitting at the bottom of the standings. Both pitchers are eager to continue their strong starts and provide a thrilling pitcher’s duel.
The first pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET, and fans are eager to see if Megill can secure a win against a rival team.
