NEW YORK — In a fiery display during the Mets‘ match against the Dodgers, reliever Jorge Lopez faced an ejection following a tumultuous on-field outburst at Citi Field.

After giving up a crucial two-run homer to Shohei Ohtani, Lopez engaged in a heated exchange with third-base umpire Ramon DeJesus, leading to his removal in a game that saw the Mets fall 10-3 to the Dodgers.

Lopez, displaying visible frustration, flung his glove into the stands after his ejection, indicating a breaking point for the struggling Mets roster under the management of Carlos Mendoza.

The Mets’ disappointing loss added to their current woes, with the news of Edwin Diaz‘s placement on the injured list and Pete Alonso‘s early exit from the game after being hit by a pitch compounding the team’s struggles.

Adam Ottavino took the mound in the eighth inning with the game tied at 3-3, only to yield a go-ahead solo home run to Will Smith, starting a cascade of runs that Lopez failed to contain as he allowed a two-run double and a two-run homer in quick succession.

The Mets’ offense briefly sparked to life in the bottom of the fifth inning, with Tomas Nido’s two-run homer and an RBI double from J.D. Martinez lifting their spirits momentarily despite the eventual defeat.

David Peterson, making his season debut after recovering from hip surgery, managed a steady pitching performance, limiting the Dodgers to two earned runs over five innings before the Mets’ bullpen faltered in the later innings.
